# Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 launches on October 23, 2026

**Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4** launches on **October 23, 2026**, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2. It’s the first Modern Warfare game to come to a Nintendo console, and it’s a standalone release—not part of Game Pass at launch.

## Campaign: 16 missions, four countries

The campaign has **16 missions** across the Korean Peninsula, Paris, New York, and Mumbai. You play as **Private Park Hyun Jun**, fighting a full‑scale invasion in Korea, while **John Price** hunts the person pulling the strings behind it.

Campaign Early Access started **October 16** for anyone who pre‑ordered or pre‑purchased digitally. Completion rewards carry over into Multiplayer and DMZ at launch.

## Multiplayer: 12 new 6v6 maps

Day one includes **12 all‑new 6v6 maps** in visually and tactically distinct locations. There are also large‑scale maps with vehicle and infantry combat.

Infinity Ward says the movement system is rebuilt for more control, with new traversal options like pipe climbs that let you get on rooftops instead of just using ladders.

## DMZ: extraction returns

**DMZ** is back as the definitive Call of Duty extraction experience. You deploy solo or with a squad into a volatile conflict zone, loot advanced military tech, and try to get out alive.

## Platforms and Game Pass

- **Platforms:** PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC (Battle.net, Steam, Xbox app), Nintendo Switch 2.
- **Game Pass:** Not included at launch. Players must buy it separately; it won’t come to Game Pass until **Holiday 2027.**
- **Xbox Play Anywhere:** Yes, so buying on Xbox also gives you the PC version.

## Modern Warfare 4’s multiplayer movement

Modern Warfare 4’s multiplayer movement is built around **momentum, control, and chaining actions**—you can sprint, mantle, slide, climb, and go prone without the flow of movement breaking. Infinity Ward rebuilt the core systems to make traversal feel more fluid than in previous Modern Warfare games.

## Mantling upgrades

Three new mantle mechanics change how you clear cover:

- **Mantle Slide:** You can go straight from a mantle into a slide, so clearing a car hood or low cover flows directly into an offensive push.
- **Mantle Momentum:** Forward speed is preserved until you clear the obstacle, so mantling no longer acts like a hard stop.
- **Mantle Steering:** You can steer left or right mid‑mantle, aim down sights, or cancel the mantle entirely after it starts.

## Sliding changes

- **Supine Slide:** Double‑tap crouch during a sprint for a longer, lower slide that ends with you on your back, feet forward.
- **Backward slide:** A new rearward slide gives you a way to disengage or reposition without fully turning away from a fight.

## Vertical traversal

- **Pipe Climb and Fast Pipe Slide:** You can climb up or down pipes attached to buildings, and slide into a vertical pipe while holding crouch for a fast, controlled descent.
- **Hand Shimmy:** Lets you reposition while hanging from a ledge, and you can aim and fire while suspended.
- **Climbing Jump:** Adds another way to launch off vertical surfaces and change elevation quickly.

## Chaining and momentum

The system is designed so actions **chain together**—sprinting, sliding, mantling, climbing, and going prone all flow into each other without interrupting momentum.

Movement also adapts to your speed and state: sprint landings adjust based on height and momentum, and you can drop into low‑profile movement to fight from unconventional angles.

## What’s been removed

Unlike Black Ops 6’s omni‑movement, MW4 does **not** let you sprint or dive in any direction. Instead, it focuses on grounded, directional movement with more environmental traversal options.
