Huawei AppGallery, an alternative to Google Play store

The goal of Huawei is to make AppGallery an open, innovative delivery app distribution platform that is available to consumers and, in addition, strictly preserves the privacy and security of users.

Huawei claims that AppGallery provides full-cycle security and protection, including real-name verification of the developer and a four-step review process for secure app operation. All apps go through a stringent verification test to prevent developers’ apps from malicious activity. It has an age-rating system to create a safe environment for children by filtering out apps that do not match their age range.

It also uses methods for isolating and preserving sensitive data and privacy of users and ensures that sensitive data – such as biometrical information – are never transmitted outside the Huawei system. The user data is anonymised and stored locally, according to the location of each user.

Due to the fact that the U.S. President Donald Trump baned his products in the U.S. last year, Huawei is trying to make its AppGallery a viable alternative to Google Play store. This is the official Huawei App distribution platform for mainstream apps and services worldwide, available in more than 170 countries/regions with 400 million monthly active users (MAUs).

The Chinese technology company Huawei, with over millions of users around the world, consistently works to increase the variety of top apps, both popular worldwide apps and localised apps. It bifurcates applications in 18 different categories, including news, social media , entertainment and much more. In view of the fact that not all applications are listed on the platform, the desired app name can be entered in a’ wishlist.’ And the users will be notified when the app is introduced to the marketplace.

Huawei AppGallery downloaded apps are intended to work on Huawei devices. The most significant factor is Huawei HiAI, the open AI smart device capability platform that pools software and hardware resources from various devices and facilitates collaborative, mutually-reinforcing interactions between them.

Huawei has also added installation-free and tap-to-use experience with ‘Quick Apps’ feature. As compared to Android apps Quick Apps are written with only 1/5 amount of codes . This means less space is needed for storage. Instead of only 20 native apps, Huawei claims that users can accommodate more than 2,000 Quick Apps with 1GB of space. Quick Apps are used on over 350 million Huawei phones.

The Quick App will be gradually rolled out to more countries and regions, offering China’s mature Quick App standards and IDE development tools to global developers. All developers worldwide are welcome to publish Quick App to jointly provide tap-to-use and installation-free experience to users.
