# OpenAI Launches ChatGPT Health Feature for US Users: What to Know

OpenAI rolls out ChatGPT Health to all US users, enabling secure connections to medical records, Apple Health, and wellness apps for personalized AI-powered wellness support.

# OpenAI Launches ChatGPT Health Feature for US Users

OpenAI has officially rolled out **ChatGPT Health** to all eligible users in the United States, marking a significant expansion of its consumer health tools. The feature, which launched on **July 23, 2026**, allows users to securely connect personal health data—including medical records, lab results, and wellness app information—to get more personalized, context-aware responses from the chatbot.

## What ChatGPT Health Does

ChatGPT Health enables users to connect data from sources like **Apple Health**, **MyFitnessPal**, **Weight Watchers**, and supported medical records from U.S. hospital systems, **One Medical**, and **Function Health**. Once connected, the chatbot can use this information to:

- Compare lab results over time
- Summarize changes since your last appointment
- Factor in medications, allergies, or dietary restrictions
- Provide tailored wellness advice based on your activity, sleep, and workout data

Users can grant access for a single response or allow permanent access, and they can explicitly include health context by adding **@Health** to a message.

## Privacy and Security Measures

OpenAI emphasizes that **health data is not used to train its AI models** or target ads. Conversations involving health information are stored separately from other chats and receive **additional encryption protection** both at rest and in transit. Users can disconnect data sources at any time, and connected data is deleted from OpenAI's systems within **30 days** of disconnection.

The company also encourages users to enable **multi-factor authentication (MFA)** for added security and clarifies that ChatGPT Health is designed to **support, not replace, professional medical care.**

## Availability and Model Support

The feature is now available to all logged-in ChatGPT users in the U.S. who are **18 and older**, across **Free, Go, Plus, and Pro plans** on web and iOS. Free users access the feature via **GPT-5.5 Instant**, while paid subscribers use **GPT-5.6 Sol**, both of which were developed with input from physicians and evaluated on OpenAI's **HealthBench Professional.**

## Why This Matters

With health-related queries to ChatGPT rising from **230 million to over 300 million people per week**, OpenAI is positioning the chatbot as a day-to-day wellness partner rather than just a general-purpose AI assistant. The rollout follows a limited early-access release in January 2026 and aligns with OpenAI's broader push into consumer and enterprise health tools, including HIPAA-compliant offerings for healthcare organizations.

## Limitations

OpenAI repeatedly stresses that ChatGPT Health is **not for diagnosis or treatment**. It's meant to help users make sense of their health data, prepare for appointments, and track wellness goals—not to provide medical advice or substitute for professional care.
