PhonePe, RuPay, and JioHotstar Team Up to Launch UPI AutoPay for Effortless Credit Card Billing

PhonePe, RuPay, and JioHotstar have rolled out UPI AutoPay to simplify credit card bill payments, making recurring transactions seamless and secure through India’s favorite digital payment platforms.

India’s digital payments ecosystem just took another leap forward. PhonePe, RuPay, and JioHotstar have partnered to launch UPI AutoPay for credit card billing, a feature that promises to make managing and paying credit card dues far more effortless for millions of users. With this move, everyday financial chores like credit card bill payments — usually tedious and easy to forget — are now just a one-time setup away.

Simplifying Recurring Payments

UPI AutoPay, already popular for OTT subscriptions, insurance premiums, and utility bills, now extends its capabilities to credit card billing, streamlining how users handle recurring payments. Once enabled, users can set up automatic bill payments through their preferred UPI app such as PhonePe, without repeatedly authorizing every month’s transaction.

The integration with platforms like PhonePe leverages India’s largest digital payments network, offering customers the convenience of paying their RuPay credit card bills directly from linked bank accounts. According to National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) data, UPI transactions crossed 13 billion in September 2025, a sign that users are ready to embrace more automated, hassle-free digital transactions.

Secure, Seamless, and Smart

What makes this rollout particularly significant is the security layer of UPI AutoPay. Users stay in full control, with the ability to modify or cancel mandates via their UPI app anytime. Each transaction is encrypted and authorized by the user’s bank, ensuring there’s no compromise on financial safety.

PhonePe’s Product Head, Ritesh Pai, reportedly called it “a crucial step toward building a more intelligent and autonomous payment experience for Indian consumers.” Meanwhile, the inclusion of JioHotstar in the partnership adds an interesting entertainment angle — allowing users to automate payments not just for credit cards but also for subscription renewals and other recurring digital services.

Driving India’s UPI Growth Mission

The collaboration among PhonePe, RuPay, and JioHotstar underscores India’s continuing transition to a cashless and autonomous payment economy. By merging financial discipline with digital ease, the initiative supports the government’s Digital India push while giving users real control over how they manage and automate daily payments.

Experts suggest that automated UPI billing could reduce late payment penalties and improve credit scores, encouraging more responsible spending habits. For banks, it cuts down on manual payment delays and operational costs — truly a win-win for all stakeholders involved.

A Smoother Financial Future

It’s easy to see where this is heading — a future where managing credit cards or subscription bills doesn’t require reminders or manual effort. As UPI-based automation becomes the norm, consumers can expect smoother, more reliable payment experiences integrated across apps they already trust.

There’s no denying that UPI AutoPay for credit card billing is more than a convenience feature. It’s a quiet revolution in how India pays, saves, and manages money — built right into the systems people already use every day.
